Hi Fred,

I am writing to provide additional information regarding Dave Lummis. Dave was assigned to 2nd CAG and was wounded in late 1969 I believe. From the rumors that I heard at the time, he tripped a booby trapped 105 round. He lost both legs and part of his left arm. I saw him in the Philadelphia VA hospital in late 1970. We spoke briefly however, at the time was recovering from an operation and was sedated. That was the last time I saw Dave as I went to work in Alaska.

Dave died 10yrs. after returning home after numerous operations. Dave had his basic training in early 1969 (Jan. or Feb.) at Paris Island. Because he showed up at Paris Island with shoulder length hair, he earned the nick name of "Hippie" As you can guess, the DI's rode his butt the whole time that he was at Paris Island. He left Paris Island as a PFC and was a Corporal when he got injured. After he arrived at Philadelphia VA hospital he was promoted to Sergeant. I have attached two news paper articles regarding his death. I hope that some one out there can remember his CAP Unit.

Sincerely,

Cliff Boone
