Frequently Asked Questions-Reunions
Why hasn't my checked been deposited yet?
a. Your checks should of been made out to Russell Longaway Trust Account and sent to Phil if you are attending the reunion. Phil will normally waits until the cut off date established before forwarding all the checks to Russell for deposit. In the case of this years reunion that date is 1 Sep. Phil and his wife have agreed to keep track of all the registrations and number of people signing up for the various tours. Phil then sends all this info and the checks to Russell for deposit via FedEx. Russell in turn deposits the checks into the Associations Trust fund. Russell has the responsibility for maintaining the tax-exempt account and filing all the tax forms. Russell also cuts the checks to organizations providing services for the reunion, such as, bus co's, hotel (if they charge for a hospitality room) any catering that provided.
Change for 2008: Mail your checks for registration and tours to Phil Ovelman, 299 Country Club Rd, Coatesville, PA 19320. Make checks payable to Russell Longaway, Trust Account. Please include number of indiv's registering, number of people taking tour to MCRD, etc. For example: My wife and I, 2 registrations, 2 for transportation to MCRD: Total: $74.00 (if a ball is coordinated it will be added later)
Why do I have to pay a Registration Fee?
a. Registration fees pay for such things as all the liquor, soda, snacks, etc in the hospitality suite. In some cases hotels charges a daily fee to use a hospitality suite and/or insist you buy your catered items from the hotel. All registration fees pay for such items.
Who chooses the location for the Reunion?
a. Reunion locations rotate between East/Central/West coast. This is done so CAP Marines that may not be able to afford to travel from East coast to West or vice versa can get to a reunion. The reunion attendees vote on the next location during general membership meeting at the reunion. They are normally scheduled for the weekend closest to 10 Nov, however in some cases that's not possible due to hotel vacancies. When you are trying to block off 70-100 rooms it can be tough to accomplish especially if the city is hosting large conferences which are normally booked 2-3yrs out. Our point man (person who volunteers) located in the designated city does his best to get rooms blocked, get a low price and as much free as he can. The point man also arranges tours of the local city that would appeal to CAP Marines. East/West coast cities are normally located near a USMC base (Quantico/Parris Island/San Diego) in order to visit those bases, graduations/PXs/Museums/etc.
